Staffing the Red Kettle at the Acme

Friday, December 15, a merry band or 65'ers took turns ringing the bell at the red kettle at the Haddonfield Acme.

It was cold and then it snowed. But that didn't slow us down! Donations were so plentiful that we had to use a paint stirrer to get the money into the kettle.

Our Thanks to:

Christmas Party

Our annual Christmas Party was held at the Methodist Church in Haddonfield. The meeting was chaired by Henry. He did a great job of managing the chaos....

Christina Lelache gave us the opening prayer and some thoughts on the Season. We were then treated to Songs of the Season by the Pine Barrens Quartet. What a great time.

The food was plentiful and varied.

A great time to to share our Spirit of the Season ...

Victor Records

Graham Alexander spoke to us about his work to bring back Victor records.

He has picked up the rights to the Victor Talking Machines logo:

He also gave us some insight to what happened to many of the masters of older Victor recordings that were kept in a concrete vault in Camden, near the river. When RCA wanted to expand, the simply bulldozed the vault into the river. So many of these recording were lost do to corporate accounting decisions.

We also learned that he has many of the old recordings available through his company. You can also get you old Victrola repaired at hi place.

Kings Road Brewery

Bob Hochgertel gave us the story of how he and some friends started Haddonfield's first brewery in over a century.

We learned how they got town approval and their plans for opening. They are all Haddonfield residents and have a vested interest in fitting in with the town's spirit and demeanor.

We also learned how they developed their unique logo

and their unique tap handles

Run to Support the Cure for Juvenile Diabetes

This morning our members acted as marshals at intersections for the runners in the Turkey Run to support a cure for Juvenile Diabetes.

It was a cool morning, but very enjoyable to see our younger friends, some in great costumes, making the effort for this good cause.

Trip to the Revolutionary War Museum in Philadelphia

Today we took our trip to visit the Revolutionary War Museum in Philadelphia and follow that with  a Lunch at the Pub. It was a popular trip and we needed 2 buses to get us all there.

There were many information displays and short videos depicting events of the time, include how the native Americans felt about the whole business.

The last stop was a display of George Washington's tent. (No Photos allowed.) Then we headed to the Pub and our lunch.

Ending with a very nice dessert.
