Battle of Haddonfield - Re-enactment

Today downtown Haddonfield was the site of the Colonials battling the Red Coats. The re-enactment occurred along Kings Highway between HaddonAvenue and the Indian King Tavern on Kings Highway.

The troops gather:

The battle starts

 Shots are fired and returned

 Re-enforecments arrive

The battle contiunues and casualtoies are taken on both sides.

The outnumbered Colinials retreat to fight another day... A few days later, the colinials will defeat the British (Hessians) at Fort Mercer in the battle of Red Bank. But today was not our day...

The Battle of Red Bank  was a battle of the American Revolutionary War in which a Hessian force was sent to take Fort Mercer on the left bank (or New Jersey side) of the Delaware Riverjust south of Philadelphia, but was decisively defeated by a far inferior force of Colonial defenders. Although the British did take Fort Mercer a month later, the victory supplied a sorely-needed morale boost to the American cause, delayed British plans to consolidate gains in Philadelphia, and relieved pressure on General Washington's army to the north of the city. St. John of God Community Services - Nancy Mansfield

Today we learned about the Community Services offered by St. John of God and a little bit about there history. Jay introduced Nancy Mansfield who then presented her information.

Nancy told us about the start of the organization in Haddonfield and then their move to a larger facility off Delses Drive. She then filled us in on the services they affer and a day care center for special need people. Most are children. Their services are provided as a non-profit organization.

Nancy then took questions and then as the "piece de resistance" She gave a spacial bag for auction, which was won by Tom.
