Yard Sale - 2018

Once Again we had a very successful yard sale. We arrived bright and early at 6 AM to our favorite spot. Our first sale (at 6:30) was an antique, wooden ironing board.

the rest of the day was spent having fun with each other and the customers.

Ronald McDonald House - Teddy Thomas

Teddy Thomas gave us a short history of the founding of the First Ronald McDonald House.

It was founded right in our area by local people, and initially supported by the McDonald's corporation. It now supports itself. and has spawned similar houses worldwide.

Following the founding of the first Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia in 1974, the first House in New Jersey open in 1983 in a small Victorian row house behind Cooper Hospital.  After the Eagles Football team partnered with McDonald’s to help create the first House, other NFL teams in large cities across the USA partnered with their local children’s hospitals and the concept quickly spread across the country.  Now the charity is global.

 Mission

Since 1983, Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey, is a home-away-from-home for families who have seriously ill or injured children being treated at local hospitals. We give our families a warm and welcoming environment within which they can stay for a days, weeks, or months, as long as their children are receiving needed medical treatment. Our House provides the essential comforts of a home: comfortable beds, hot showers, home-cooked meals, laundry facilities and much more.

Trip to The Phillies Game

Our trip to see the Phillies play the Nationals

was led by our esteemed leader, Bill Brown.

We had a full bus 

and were dropped off at curbside of the stadium

We had great seats, field level and were entertained by the Kensington String band prior to the start of the game.

The game had a lot of action and ended with a nail-biting 9th inning. Sorry that the nationals won...

Umpiring - Joe Grennor

Joe Grennor
spoke to us about being an umpire.  Hes has been doing this for over 24 years. and now that he has retired from his primary occupation as a school principal, he is even more active.

Joe also teaches umpiring to people, mostly men, and gave us some tips on the trade.

Umpires get $80 per game. and women's softball is the best because the games are shorter for the same fee.

But, as he pointed out, you have to get ready for the season with exercises in squatting.

Joe also gave us some insight into the work of an umpire, from the umpire's perspective. And he gave us some interesting stories..

spoke to us on the importance of managing our medications to avoid medical emergencies.

Food Sensitivities and Illness Donna Gabler

Donna Gabler  spoke to us about how our being sensitive to specific foods can cause a myriad of problems. These problems are easily diagnosed, but the source is not obvious. And sometimes a simple change in diet is the cure and not medication.
